While most people don’t like to think about it, death eventually comes to everyone. Being prepared for that time involves more than making sure there is a will in place and that loved ones have the resources needed to carry on. Choosing to make the funeral arrangements ahead of time is also an essential part of preparing for the inevitable. By choosing to talk with a funeral director at one of the local Funeral Homes in Puyallup, those arrangements can be in place in no time. Here are some of the matters that will need to be addressed.

Burial or Cremation?

One of the first decisions to make is what will happen with the body. For those who prefer a traditional burial, this will involve arranging for the body to be prepared prior to the funeral service. Along with selecting a casket, there is the need to set aside clothing, designate pallbearers and, in general, ensure all the arrangements are made to transport the coffin to the cemetery.

Others will prefer cremation. In this instance, choosing an urn in advance is an important part of the plan. It also helps to designate a loved one who will receive the urn once the cremation is completed.

The Viewing and Memorial Service

Viewing or visitation typically occur at some time before the memorial service. Depending on the preferences of the individual, the viewing may take place the evening before the funeral takes place the following morning. It is also possible to set aside a couple of hours immediately before the memorial service for this purpose.

The service can include just about any element the individual desires. For people who are religious, including elements that have to do with the beliefs held by the deceased and observing any rites associated with that tradition are appropriate. Building the service around readings, musical selections, and opportunities for loved ones to share memories and say their goodbyes is also a possibility. The director can help the client draft an order for the service and keep it on file.

There are a number of other details that can be settled in advance. Talk with a director at a local funeral home today and make those decisions. Doing so will ensure that everything is in order and that those who are left behind don’t have to make those choices during a time when they are struggling with the loss of a loved one.
