Each distillery has its own distinct characteristics and is an integral part of the Texas Bourbon Whiskey puzzle. There are no two distilleries that are identical. Some are so dissimilar that you may assume they have nothing in common except their signature whiskey contains at least 51% maize. Despite the lack of similarities in individual distilleries, there are some things you can expect when taking a tour.
Tours Follow a Pattern
Most distillery tours, including those at places such as Balcones Distilling, follow a predetermined path from grain to bottle, or at the very least from wherever they begin and stop at that specific plant. Some begin with grain and conclude with barreling, with the barrels being sent to a storage facility before being bottled somewhere. Some facilities are solely dedicated to the storage and bottling of whiskey.
Go to the Visitor Center
Even if you aren’t a whiskey connoisseur, Visitor Center activities are a terrific opportunity to acquire an overview in a way that is supposed to be fun. Every Visitor Center at each distillery offers its own unique way of showing off its hard work and unique spirits, such as Texas Bourbon Whiskey. The Visitor Center is also another great place to learn more about your favorite spirits, as the employees might have a little more time to answer your questions.
Tour Basics
The following are general guidelines for any distillery tour: wear closed-toe shoes, phone ahead to ensure they are open, and don’t overbook yourself with appointments at too many places.
