Do you want to have your driving privileges reinstated? If so, you will need to request one of the Secretary of State hearings in Chicago for which you are eligible.

What You Need to Know about the Hearing

The Administrative Hearings Department holds Secretary of State Hearings in Chicagofor drivers requesting reinstatement of a license. Suppose your license was suspended or revoked for driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol or other drugs. In that case, you may request one of two types of hearings:

  • Informal
  • Formal

A hearing officer holds informal hearings on a walk-in basis. These hearings are allowed when the offense did not result in a fatality, a single DUI, or lesser moving violations.

Formal hearings are held by appointment only and requests must be in writing. A formal hearing is required if your license was revoked for an offense involving a fatality or multiple DUIs.

Preparation for either hearing can make the difference between getting your license reinstated or a denial. The result of denial is that you will need to wait 90 days before requesting another hearing.

Requirements for Receiving Driving Relief

The minimum requirements for obtaining relief include:

  • Evidence you are making efforts to reform your driving practices
  • No pending tickets
  • You must wait until your projected eligibility date to request reinstatement
