Everyone loves to talk about doing natural childbirth, but not everybody loves the work that comes with it. It’s not labor, but the study that you need to put in in order to understand your pregnancy, what your body is doing, what your body will do in labor, and what will happen postpartum. These classes are for you and for your partner to teach you how to have a healthy pregnancy, understanding the process of pregnancy, stages of labor, and how to care for yourself holistically before, during, and after childbirth.
What is Holistic?
Most hospital-based medicine is either termed traditional medicine or allopathic medicine. In the case of obstetrics, there are an increasing number of C-sections performed and a number of inductions that has reached almost as high as one in four. While there are risks in giving birth, one of the risks should not be portion into a medically unnecessary treatment or procedure. In fact, New Jersey has one of the highest rates of C-sections in the nation. The statistics are alarming, with some hospitals nearly bumping 50 percent of their deliveries as C-sections and a negligible amount of VBAC. While some of these procedures may be medically necessary – there are certainly medical reasons for inducing labor and having a C-section, these are both traumatic and invasive events. No woman should ever be coerced or frightened into an unnecessary procedure.
Talking is Important
If you do not feel that you can talk about any and all aspects of pregnancy or delivery with your obstetrician, you need a new obstetrician. If you do not feel comfortable with your obstetrician, you need a new obstetrician. Taking natural childbirth classes can empower you by giving the knowledge that you need to stand up for yourself and your child.
