Waterproofing concrete sealers are important to apply over floors to increase life expectancy and the overall durability of the concrete. They can also help to keep the floors presentable and free of mold. Moreover, by protecting the concrete floors using a sealer, the future maintenance cost of the floors is also minimized.

Products that are bought from reputable manufacturers, such as Deco Products Inc., usually come with proper instructions for applying the sealer. Moreover, many manufacturers also provide services such as preparing and applying the sealer for you for the best results.

Prepping Surface Before the First-Ever Application

There are a few steps that are required to prepare the surface for the sealer in a way that makes it durable.

Clean the Surface Thoroughly

The first thing to do to prepare for waterproofing concrete sealer in Florida is to sweep the concrete floor that will be treated to get rid of all the dirt and debris. After a simple sweep, any type of grease, stains, mastic, or oil needs to be removed using the appropriate cleaner and scraping tools.

Mop and Dry up the Surface Completely

After removing all the stains and deep cleaning the surface, mop with water to remove any residue left of the chemical cleaners used in the previous step. Then leave the floor for at least 24 hours to ensure that it’s completely dry.

Fill the Cracks

Before applying the waterproofing concrete sealer in Florida, it’s best to make sure that all the cracks are filled up using a crack sealer so the surface is smooth. Then wait for the recommended time for the crack sealer to dry.

Apply Two Coats of the Waterproofing Concrete Sealers

After the surface is thoroughly cleaned, completely dried, and smooth, it’s time to apply the concrete sealer. Start by applying the first coat of the sealant and make sure to let it dry for the recommended time. The second coat must be applied after the first has dried completely. It’s better to paint the second coat at right angles to the first one to ensure consistent coverage. Applying two thin coats should be enough for a smooth and even finish.

Let it Dry

Lastly, allow the sealer to dry completely before stepping or driving on it. This may take up to three days.
