If you enjoy adventures and you want to see different cities, then consider a career as a nurse who travels. While most traveling as a nurse is done by helicopter, there are options for traveling in an ambulance or with your personal vehicle. The following are a few details to keep in mind about what to expect while working as an RN travel nurse.

Schedules

Your schedule will likely vary from one day to the next. You might have to work long hours one day because of the calls that you have to assist with while other days could only be a few hours. The location where you work will usually change as a travel nurse as well, especially if you’re a flight nurse and are called to help with medical issues in other states.

Training

Before working as a travel nurse, you will likely need to complete certain types of training before you go out on a helicopter or on an ambulance. This training often required so that you know how to properly use the medical equipment needed for each patient and so that you know how to travel in various vehicles.

Working With Others

Don’t be surprised if you’ll work under someone else for a short time before you’re able to work as an RN travel nurse by yourself. This will give you an opportunity to ask questions and see first-hand how to interact with patients, doctors, and other medical workers when you’re on the scene after receiving a call.
