For new equipment manufacturers (OEM) or for replacement parts, finding the correct grinder teeth for any type of horizontal grinder should be a primary consideration.
While many people put a lot of time and effort into the design and development of the actual equipment, if the grinder teeth aren’t also carefully selected for their durability, ability to hold and edge that their overall improvement in the equipment potential they are actually a detriment to the equipment.
Too often with OEM companies, or even during repairs or replacements, little to no consideration is given to the specific type of grinder teeth selected. This not only ends up costing money as they have to be continually replaced, repaired and sharpened, but they also decrease the efficiency of the operation.
OEM or Alternate Brand
It may be a logical assumption that all grinder teeth have to be OEM replacement parts. In fact, this is not always the case, particularly with companies specializing in providing replacement or new teeth that are designed to work with specific equipment brands.
While there are replacement teeth that can fit onto current equipment in one piece, there are also companies that have developed a holder. This allows you to use replaceable or rotatable teeth to help to avoid costly full replacements of the component.
If you are currently using a Peterson, Morbark, Rayco or Vermeer horizontal grinder there are alternatives to consider in lieu of OEM grinder teeth. These replacements are only available from specialized companies, but they offer features that the OEM teeth simply don’t have.
Attention to Detail
With replacement grinder teeth made to fit on the most popular brands of horizontal grinders expect to see longer lifecycles and better retention of the cutting edge.
Companies providing these teeth have the experience and the expertise to develop new technologies in design and alloy options to provide a product that will stand up even in extreme work conditions. Since they are able to hold their edge longer, they perform better, speed up work, and cut down on fuel costs and time running equipment.
This all adds up to a big advantage. Not only is the grinding more effective, but there is less cost to additional equipment running times, lower cost on any job and less time spent in dealing with downtime to replace, sharpen or repair problems with the teeth on the grinder. They also mean less wear and tear on equipment as the grinder teeth are more efficient, putting less strain on the engine and extending its life as well.
