There’s a reason that you go to a cosmetologist when it is time to get a haircut, as opposed to letting your friend cut your hair. It is truly an art-form and requires proper knowledge and training to be able to cut, color, and style hair. Licensed cosmetologists have been through countless hours of training and taken the state board exam in order to practice in salons.

Process of Beauty School

The Beauty School in Overland Park, KS offers class rotations every six weeks, so unlike traditional college classes where you can only enroll in the fall, spring, and summer, students can enroll practically any time of year. The beauty school offers three phases of cosmetology courses.

The first phase is the new talent phase. During this phase students participate in 12-week courses that introduce students to the world of cosmetology. The goal of the first phase is to build a strong foundation and understanding of hair, skin, and nails which includes skill building.

The second phase of beauty school is the Designer One phase. During this phase the focus is continued skill building in a supervised salon. New concepts are introduced. These include the subjects of retailing, client retention, guest services, and how to incorporate business training skills.

The final phase is the Designer Two phase. During this phase students continue concentrating on advancing their skills, prepare for the state boards, work on resume and interviewing skills, and secure a job to transition into upon graduation.

Final Steps Upon Course Completion

After students have completed and successfully passed all of the required coursework, the final step to becoming a licensed cosmetologist is to take the state board and practical exam. The real world awaits once the state boards are passed. Click for more info about our highly esteemed cosmetology school.
