Worn brake pads need to be tossed and filters changed while tire problems mean you’ll need to break out your spare soon. These are all just a part of a basic maintenance checklist every car owner should have. Here are a few things to help you know what else should be on the list:

Check your tire pressure

Tires usually lose about 1 to 2 psi every month so it’s best to check the pressure every time you swing up the station to fill up on gas.

Rotate those tires

Don’t you have it when your tires wear out unevenly? The cost alone can put a dent in your monthly happy fund. To save on costs and extend the life of your tires, start rotating them. Put the ones on the back to the front and vice versa. Do this every 5000 to 7000 miles. That’s going to help result in even wear on the tires, allowing you to use all four that much longer, says CarCare.

Check your alignment

If your car seems to be lurching to the side whenever you make a turn, that could be the result of a wonky wheel alignment. Drive to an auto repair shop in Beltline East of Preston TX and have that checked out right away.

Do a visual check

Are there are any obvious signs of wear and tear or damage to any part of the car? Is there excessive smoke coming out of your engine?

Assess your brakes

Are your brake pedals spongy? Do you hear screeching noises when you step on the brakes? That could be because your brake pads are worn through. Brake problems are serious and could pose a safety hazard to you if you don’t deal with the problem sooner rather than later. Go to a service center to have them replaced immediately.
