Many people have desired to make their own white lightning, even if it’s just once to learn the process. While it is still considered illegal to make moonshine mash for personal, many people still desire to learn the recipe for the concoction.
This recipe is a fermented mixture/slurry of ingredients, usually sugar, corn, yeast, and water, which is then distilled to make a high-proof drinkable alcohol. It can be made from different grains, but it is usually made with a corn base.
The Ingredients
For this recipe, you are going to need five pounds of ground cornmeal (or you can sprout your own corn and do it that way) and five pounds of regular sugar. You will also need 10 gallons of water (preferably distilled), a pint of malt extract and a cake/package of turbo or dry ale yeast.
What To Do
First, you will need to clean and sanitize a 20-gallon stainless steel or copper pot and fill it with 10 gallons of water. Heat the water on the stovetop to at least 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Once heated thoroughly, you will add the cornmeal to the water, pouring slowly. Stir after each pound is added to ensure that the cornmeal is dissolved evenly.
Then, you will dissolve your sugar into the mixture, stirring slowly again and adding one pound at a time. The temperature should remain between 120 and 145 degrees Fahrenheit for 30 minutes after the sugar is added. Remove the pot from the heat source when it reaches a thin gruel-like consistency, placing it in a sink filled with cool water.
While the mash cools, you can dissolve the yeast in two cups of warm water, adding the yeast and malt extract to the ‘shine mixture. The concoction can be transferred to a ceramic vessel and stored for three to five days, keeping a thin cloth over the top to keep out dirt and bugs. Like us at Facebook
