In all types of insulation installation, including in HVAC systems and in other similar types of applications where the material to be insulated is metal, using insulation studs offers a quick, effective and highly efficient method.

The basic method for this installation is the same as any type of stud welding. The insulation studs, which are available in different styles, shapes, lengths, and alloys are rapidly and securely attached to the metal workpiece using a hand-held stud gun. The result is a complete attachment of the weld pin in the exact location it is needed without any visible sign of the attachment from the other side.

Use Quality Equipment

A small, lightweight and highly portable CD (Capacitator Discharge) welder is the ideal option for attaching the insulation studs to the metal. Occasionally, with heavier metal workpieces and insulation there may be an advantage to using an arc welding method.

Regardless of the type of welding, always choose a quality stud gun and system. This will ensure the best possible weld and process and prevent incomplete welds or problems for the installer.

Understand the Process

While most of the systems used for installation these studs are automated to a specific degree, it may also be important to make specific types of adjustments to the unit. It is important that the installer understands how to correctly set the system given the studs and the workpiece.

Know Your Pattern

This is a very fast process, with an experienced installer able to place 20 or more studs per minute. It is important to understand the pattern for placing the studs to allow for maximum efficiency in the stud weld process.

While this is not as critical on small jobs, on big projects, even a few extra seconds per stud weld can add up over time, extending the time it takes to get the job completed.
