Having a swimming pool is really wonderful because swimming is a great way to relax and have fun with your family and friends. Not only that, but swimming also makes for excellent exercise as well. Even if you don’t have your own pool, going to a public pool can also be really fun. The problem is that many, if not most, pools use chlorine to sanitize the water. Yes, there are salt water pools, however these still require a pool salt chlorinator in order to be fully sanitized. As you may know, chlorine is very detrimental to both human health and to the environment.
What Does A Salt Water Chlorinator Do?
Many people do have salt water pools because they tend to be healthier than the alternative. Even though salt is known to be a disinfectant, it is not strong enough to be left on its own in a pool. The salt water will still get dirty and full of bacteria. These pool salt chlorinators take the salt water in the pool, and through a chemical reaction and a scientific process called electrolysis, they create increased levels of chlorine intended to keep the pool sanitary.
Problems with Pool Salt Chlorinators

One of these problems occurs when there is not enough salt in the pool, which will result in the cell (main part) of the chlorinator being stripped of its coating. The final problem that these machines experience is the alkalinity problem, which is when the process of salt water chlorination causes an excess creation of alkaline solutions. The alkaline is dangerous, so it needs to be treated with hydrochloric acid to counteract the effects. This is all in addition to the expense of purchasing and maintaining salt chlorinating systems.
The Alternative: Pool Water Ionization
Since there are so many different problems with the chlorination of salt water, as well as the problems inherent with chlorine, there need to be other options too. Pool water ionization is a great alternative to traditional chlorine. The ionizing of pool water eliminates the needs for harsh chemicals and compounds like chlorine, which is very bad for human and environmental health. Pool water ionization is easier, much more cost effective and efficient, and is overall the far superior option.
