Guide to Good Health Care

Examine your medicines: Many of our general health problems (like heartburn) occur because of the medicines we take. It is advisable to keep away from drugs as much as possible. Painkillers are the worst offenders healthwise. Also avoid medicines like cough syrups which contain alcohol and sometime make patients dependant on them.

Check your diet: Health problem causing foods are easy to identify. Foods that contain lots of fat, cholesterol, caffeine, chocolate, high-acid (like citrus and tomato juices) and mint-flavored foods should be high on your no-no list. Animal fat is the most dangerous. Also it is better to stay away from carbonated drinks and dairy products.
Stop smoking: We needn’t remind you that smoking is very injurious to health. Not only does it destroy your lungs and lead to major ailments like cancer in the long run, tobacco also irritates the digestive tract and leads to general problems like heartburn.

Stay away from alcohol: Alcohol has its ill effects documented in great detail, so we needn’t tell you too much here. Suffice to say that alcohol is one of the most dangerous things that we put in our body and it would be extremely beneficial for your health if you can quit alcohol completely. If that is difficult, have it only during social gatherings, which will limit your intake a great deal.

Lose weight: The tendency for people in most developed countries is to get fat. This puts a lot of stress on your system. Losing weight, even by a little, can do wonders for your health.

Transform your eating habits: Rather than having three large meals a day, break it down to small, frequent meals throughout the day. Follow the dictum, “Breakfast like a king, dinner like a peasant” and you will improve on the health front in leaps and bounds.

Exercise on a regular basis: Follow a regular exercise regimen. An aerobic exercise program, or at least a brisk walk daily would help your circulation, energy levels and overall health condition. It also reduces your stress levels and helps you to lose weight. But take care not to exercise right after a meal.
