While most people assume that U-bolt is a standard design, there are several different variations. Having a slightly different shape to the bolt can provide additional options for securing different types of materials as well as a more aesthetically looking final product.

In Omaha, there are a number of manufacturers, fabricators and service providers that utilize a range of different options in these fasteners. Understanding the options can help in determining the right bolts to put on your next fastener order.

The Standard

The standard U-bolts are designed with two legs that are threaded about one to third to half way up the leg. At the point where the thread stops, the bolt then bends, creating a rounded top that forms the shape of a U. Nuts can be attached to both of the legs of the bolt and tightened to hold the pipe, tubing or other types of round or objects.

It is also possible for U-bolts to have a spanner or a bridge-like clamp that goes over both legs and then is tightened in place. This evenly distributes the pressure, preventing the risk of damaging pipe, tubing, antennas or other round materials.

Square Bend

The square bend U-bolts have the same basic features as the standard U-bolt, except the unthreaded bend forms a straight line across rather than a curve. This is a good option for square tubing, aluminum bar or channel other types of square materials.

Semi-Round

The semi-round U-bolt is a mixture of the two. It has the shoulders of the square bend but the semi-round or domed shape that is more like the traditional U-bolt design. This is used in many types of industries including in the manufacturing of trailers and RVs, truck boxes and in many other types of heavy equipment and marine manufacturing.
