Each tooth in a person’s mouth is made up of blood vessels and nerves that are located inside the root. When the tooth is forming, these blood vessels and nerve provide the nutrients the tooth needs. Eventually, they are no longer needed, which means a dentist can remove them without doing any permanent damage to the tooth. The process of removing the nerves and blood vessels inside a tooth is referred to as a root canal. Unfortunately, there are some situations where this procedure is unavoidable. Some of the signs this dental treatment is needed are found here.

Pain

Pain is one of the very first indications that there is something wrong with the tooth’s root. If a person is unable to do normal activities, such as drinking or eating without experiencing pain, then they need to see their dentist. In some cases, a simple cavity can cause the blood vessels and nerves inside the tooth to become inflamed and get infected. Since antibiotics are not going to help this infection, the dentist will likely opt remove the infected portion of the tooth.

Broken Tooth

Another sign that a root canal is needed is if the tooth is broken and the nerves are exposed. If the tooth is not repaired, it can result in a number of serious issues. For example, not having an infected tooth treated may mean that the entire thing has to be extracted down the road. Also, if the infection is not treated, it may enter the blood stream and cause several health issues.

Sensitivity to Heat

If a person suddenly notices that it is painful when they drink hot liquids, then this may also indicate a problem. This dull ache that it causes is eventually going to turn into intense pain. In this situation, scheduling an appointment is a must.
