For people who grew up around swimming pools, the smell of Commercial Pool Cleaning Products can evoke feelings of nostalgia.  They remember coming in from the hotel swimming pool on a hot summer night.  They would see their faces in the mirror, their hair wet and their eyes red with Swimming Pool Chemicals.  They knew they weren’t supposed to open their eyes underwater, but who can resist?

At Pulsar®, the best part of the job is not simply selling Commercial Pool Cleaners and chemicals to the owners of nearby swimming pools.  The best part is making the joy of swimming part of people’s lives.  The right pool products can help ensure that public pools and water parks are safe for young children.

Just Enough Chlorine but Not Too Much

The main Swimming Pool Chemicals that affect one’s swimming experience are chlorine and muriatic acid.  They help prevent algae growth, and they help prevent the spread of communicable disease.  Allowing swimmers into a pool too soon after in has been “shocked” with large amounts of chlorine will make for an unpleasant swimming experience.  The pool will have a strong smell, and swimmers’ eyes will quickly become irritated.  Pool owners should periodically drain the pool to prevent an excess buildup of CYA.  CYA is necessary for pool safety, but too much of it can be bad.

Preventing Cryptosporidiosis Infections

Children who swim in public pools are vulnerable to cryptosporidiosis infections.  Cryptosporidiosis causes diarrhea and can also cause respiratory symptoms.  Treatment with antibiotics can stop the symptoms, but it is hard to kill all the parasitic protists in the patient’s intestines.  Symptoms often recur and require further treatment.

Swimming should be a fun part of childhood.  It is also an important way to stay safe.
