Tape sealing or carton sealing is an important part of the packing process. There are different machines and models on the market that offer the ability to quickly and effectively tape and seal cartons of any size.

There are several important features to consider when selecting carton sealing machines. Taking the time to evaluate your current and future needs and to think about how the new equipment will integrate into your current packaging configuration will be very important for either an existing line or in the development of a new line.

Size and Shape of Containers

Depending on the manufacturer and the model, case sealing equipment can handle just one size of identical packaging or they can be designed to detect and adjust for variable sizes of boxes and cartons.

Some companies only ship one size of carton and this is not likely to change even if they increase their production lines. Other companies may produce, pack and ship a variety of different products and a variable size carton sealer model will be more effective.

It will also be critical to consider where the tape needs to be applied. Most of the standard carton sealing machines will seal tops and bottoms, while some will also be able to accommodate side closure sealing.

Features and Additional Components

To assist in providing more than one action with a single machine, additional accessories or features can be added one. Flat closures are an add-on for many packaging systems, eliminating the need to manually position the flaps prior to arriving at the carton sealing machines.

Tape alarms are another handy accessory to consider. These work on the tape dispenser and the combined cutter to give an auditory and visual signal if the tape roller is empty, if the tape breaks or if the tape is not properly cut and continues to pull, preventing correct taping of the boxes following.
